Project Concept

The JMTEP-UCD project is all about designing and promoting EU-related teaching & learning materials and teaching approaches that make good use of these, particularly for learners with limited understanding of the EU, its institutions, values, and activities. Essentially it focuses on engaging student teachers and teacher educators at one of Ireland’s top teacher education centres in designing, testing and refining what we term Teaching & Learning Packages (TLPs) that double as teacher education and school-centred learning experiences about Europe and being European.

The Project Mission

  • To design, build and test in live teaching settings three EU-focused learning ‘modules’ / TLPs; one each on the themes: A Green Europe, Active European Citizenship, and European Heritage.
  • Each module comes with detailed teaching guidance, is open-source, and is designed to meet ECTS standards and criteria at Level 7 / 8.
  • At the close of project, these modules will be freely available for use and/or adaptation by other teacher education institutions in Ireland and across the EU to support initial and continuing teacher education.

How the Project Works

  • Over the past two years, a team of UCD educators and EU specialists have been creating, testing, and refining the modules through a collaborative, iterative process involving prototyping, piloting, and evaluation.
  • We are now at the point of seeking feedback and suggestions for a wider range of stakeholders and experts in the various thematic areas, with the intention of achieving the highest standards of quality and relevance.

Validating the Project Output

  • The JMTEP-UCD TLPs are validated through a series of JMTEP-UCD Learning Events and Workshops in the university and beyond.
  • Additional capacity-building and expert workshops took place throughout the project to help refine content and approaches, by bringing draft and in-progress materials to experts such as policymakers, curriculum leaders, and teacher educators in other constituencies and settings.

The JMTEP-UCD Advisory Group

  • A small Pedagogical Advisory Group (PAG) of 3-5 members has helped to guide the project’s design and validation phases. This group includes independent experts and representatives from other Erasmus+ Projects and a recent Jean Monnet Chair.
  • The PAG will also contribute to *JMTEP-UCD Multiplier Events* toward the end of the project.

The JMTEP-UCD project is about creating interesting, accessible, high-quality EU learning experiences to enrich the European dimensions of teacher education in Ireland and beyond.
